Renfrewshire Cab Co has been part of the community for over 20 years, because of this we strongly believe it’s important to give back and support the community however we can.

Here’s a look at some of the things our management team, staff and drivers have got up to over the years while out and about in the community…

We took inspiration from ACCORD’s #custardchallenge and some of our staff and drivers very kindly nominated themselves to be ‘gunged’ with custard by their colleagues to raise funds for a brilliant cause! Our Manager Chris McAteer as well as Control Room Supervisors; Craig Paterson, Chloe McNicholl and Ryan Coelho took part along with our Drivers; Mick O’Donnell, Jimmy Lappin and Graham Fleming.

Here’s some pictures from the day’s events that appeared in the Paisley Daily Express. Our Manager Hannah McCulloch told the Express at the time “Accord Hospice gunged their Chief Executive in custard for Hospice Care Week and we’ve decided to get in on the action in aid of the great work they do locally.” All in all we raised nearly £700!

St Mirren F.C. Festive Friends

We provided wheelchair accessible transport for guests to and from the Simple Digital Arena, the home of St Mirren Football Club. This was organised by the club’s Gayle Brannigan, who is the Head of the Community Trust. Gayle contacted us in December to ask if we could assist in providing transport to ensure all members of the local community could attend on Christmas Day. Our Management Team fully supported the idea and quickly put plans into action so we could cover the costs and put in place vehicles. The video here shows that the whole day was a roaring success!

Maggie's Trolley Dash

We took part in the Paisley Trolley Dash in aid of Maggie’s on Sunday 27 May 2018. Our team on the day consisted of Nikki Muir, manager and Aimee Cameron, controller.

While we had originally set our JustGiving target for £500 we were overjoyed that we easily surpassed this quickly! The company got the ball rolling with a donation of £100 before all of our staff, drivers and customers chipped in for the good cause. This was great itself, but Nikki and Aimee did us all proud by winning on the day.

Trip to Largs

In October of 2015, our fleet of People Carrier drivers volunteered to take residents of local care homes to Largs for a special day out.

Those who came along were from Braemount Care Home, Elderslie Care Home, Stanley Park Care Home, Hunterhill Care Home and Erskine Care Home.

The drivers were more than happy to give back to our local customers who use us frequently, especially on their Accounts.

Accord Hospice Sportsman's Dinner

Managing Director of Renfrewshire Cabs, David McCulloch, together with Russell Laing from neighbouring business Greenlaw Garage have sponsored a Sportsman’s Dinner in aid of local charity, Accord Hospice, for six years running now.

The annual event is organised by two sons of former Paisley Daily Express editor Jim Neil, Colin and Drew. They hold the event in remembrance of their father who in the last stages of his life was cared for at Accord Hospice in the Hawkhead area of the Town.

Since the first event over £42,000 has been raised to support the great provided at the hospice.

Christmas Dinner Transport

In December 2015, the local community joined together to support Jodie Campbell’s idea of providing Christmas Dinner for those who wouldn’t be able to or would be alone on Christmas Day. However, a lack of transport meant some guest would’ve missed out, that was until Renfrewshire Cabs stepped in and decided, in the festive spirit, to provide free taxis for those attending.

David McCulloch, MD told the Express “We thought it would a real shame if some people couldn’t get to the hotel because of a lack of transport, so we had no hesitation in agreeing to pay for some of our drivers to get them there and back.”

Backing the Bid

In October 2017, we made it official – the Renfrewshire Cab Company was to back Paisley’s bid to become UK City of Culture in 2021.

We always have been and always will be a local company – all of our 550+ drivers live locally and so do our 50 members of office staff. It’s our belief that when the Town does well, our drivers, staff and customers will benefit from this too.

Hannah McCulloch, Manager, said “The most exciting aspect for us is the fact that the community and business can take a greater pride and generate a sense of team spirit.”

Taxi for Cash

Willie Queen, one of our longest serving drivers, knows all of his customers well and enjoys taking them on their way everyday. When he heard that regular customer Margaret Tosh and lifelong Celtic fan from Glenburn had never been to see them play, he knew he had to change that.

Willie then bought Mrs Tosh and himself a match ticket before driving to her ‘Paradise’ at Parkhead Stadium to see Celtic play for the first time.

Mrs Tosh told the local newspaper “It was such a smashing day, I couldn’t believe it. If I died tomorrow, I’d die a happy woman after going to see Celtic.”

Purple Flag Status

At the beginning of 2017, Paisley was awarded it’s Purple Flag status – a symbol to show we maintain a vibrant nightlife economy.

Manager Hannah McCulloch played a role by attending meetings and trying to ensure the company helped by providing safe transport home for customers at night.

Renfrewshire Foodbank Donation

Every Christmas we love to make a team effort from all of our staff, drivers and customers to take part in a good deed for a good cause.

December 2017 saw us continue this by taking part in a collection drive for a local foodbank.

Staff all dropped tins, cans and packaged food into the office while customers were encouraged to donate food items to drivers in their taxi through a Facebook competition.

We were then able to make a significant contribution to the Renfrewshire FoodBank to ensure that everyone had enough food to put on the table for their family, especially during the Festive period of the year.

RAH Children's Ward

Andy Campbell, one of our drivers, joined our office staff, Hannah, Evan and Alex on a visit to the Children’s Ward 15 at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley. Our staff and drivers had been fundraising to buy toys and gifts for the children who would be spending their Christmas morning in hospital.

Members of the office staff got into the Festive spirit and joined in on the fun by holding a week long competition to wear their most weird and wonderful Christmas jumper while also donating to this great cause!

Fiona Young, the Ward Sister, told online site “We really must give a big ‘thank you’ to Renfrewshire Cab Co for coming along with a huge bundle of presents and bringing Santa with them!

Lamont Farm Project

Money raised at our Christmas Night-Out was matched by the company in order to purchase items to donate. This idea came about when our manager Hannah McCulloch visited her local Pets at Home store in Linwood and saw a young schoolboy, Sam, volunteering at the weekend to raise funds for the farm. This had a special meaning for Hannah as her first pet which kickstarted her love for all animals, was a cat from Lamont Farm.

On Christmas Eve, Hannah was joined by our Supervisors Ryan Coelho and Rebecca Quinn to drop off the food and products at the farm. We were given a tour round the project and got introduced to all of the lovely animals on site.

Easter egg Giveaway

In the past several years it has became somewhat of a tradition that we hold an annual Easter giveaway by surprising our customers by giving out Easter Eggs while travelling in our vehicles.

Drivers and office staff alike love getting involved by dropping off a wide selection of Easter Eggs at our Paisley base for us to send out in our cars and brighten people’s day a little.

Customers and drivers are then encouraged to send in pictures of them with their Egg to our popular Facebook page – where we showcase happy little ones with their treat.

In 2018, we had a large amount of Easter Eggs leftover from our giveaway. It was then our idea to donate them to a local cause. Managers Hannah McCulloch and Chris McAteer then paid a visit to our Account Customer and Paisley-based charity Renfrewshire Carers Centre where the Eggs were then distributed to a group of Young Carers – making sure everyone could join in the ‘eggcelent’ fun!

Animal Support & Rescue

Renfrewshire Cabs was contacted by a small animal rescue charity located in Mid Gavin Equestrian Centre in Howwood on the outskirts of Renfrewshire to see if we could provide transport for a group of young volunteers to go the centre and help for the day.

The company was more than happy to help provide transportation to enable students from the town’s West College Scotland campus to go for the day and help out for the good cause.

Our two People Carrier drivers enjoyed this and having their role to play!

Fares4Free is a charity initiative launched by a taxi driver, David Gibson. The aim of the charity is to reduce the amount of Veterans affected by loneliness and hardship thorough the provision of transport. David contacts us occasionally asking if we can cover a job for him, which we are happy to help with! Nationwide, David and his team have organised £100,000 of free fares for Veterans while clocking up 60,000 miles on the road.
